Offending Horrible Transgender People in California to Become a Crime

The dumb state that wants to throw godly people in jail for refusing to use “proper transgender pronouns” is California, undoubtedly no surprise to the “Duck Dynasty” crowd. However, concerned Adam and Evers may be relieved to learn that the proposed measure, menacingly known as the Seniors Long-Term Care Bill of Rights, does not apply to the state at large, but only to employees of long-term care facilities who interact with residents of those facilities. The bill passed both houses of the California legislature and is currently awaiting the governor’s signature.

The bill protects all LGBTQ seniors in long-term care facilities, not just transgender residents (Western Journalism’s backwoods readers will have to search the Google to find out what dem high-falutin’ letters stand for). It also protects seniors with HIV.

The bill’s “pronoun provision”, which conservatives find so objectionable, states that “it shall be unlawful for a long-term care facility or facility staff to … willfully and repeatedly fail to use a resident’s preferred name or pronouns after being clearly informed of the preferred name or pronouns.” This indisputably poses a mortal threat to our civilization.

The pronoun provision is just one, and possibly the least important, protection afforded by the bill, which also bars discrimination in such forms as denying an LGBTQ senior admission to a long-term care facility, transferring a resident within a facility or to another facility based on the anti-LGBTQ attitudes of other residents, or evicting a resident from a facility on the basis of their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or HIV status.

Although a care facility or staff member found guilty of violating a resident’s rights is subject to a fine of up to $1,000, or a year in prison, or both, there’s a better chance that Pat Robertson will finally come out as gay than that anyone will be sent to jail for using the wrong pronoun.
