THE REVEAL

How the “SINISTER” system works: If you live in Minneapolis, and you think you may have been the victim of a hate crime, regardless of your religion, you can call the city hotline and lodge your complaint. If the complaint is deemed legally actionable, it will then be referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation. Any suspected hate crime relating to race, national origin, gender, gender identity, or religious affiliation may be reported. A few dozen cases have been investigated so far; roughly the same number have been rejected. Horrifying.

THE STUPID

Minneapolis is not “cracking down on anyone who opposes Sharia law,” nor can its “CREEPY” call system remotely be characterized as a “Sharia protection hotline.” Nothing in the city initiative specifically addresses Sharia law or is directed at enforcing it.

According to the Minneapolis Civil Rights Department, the hotline was created in response to a recent rise in incidents of racism, xenophobia, sexism and bigotry following the 2016 presidential election. It does not favor any religion over any other and will not be used to infringe upon anyone’s constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech.

Several other U.S. cities, including New York, Washington, and Seattle, have established similar hotlines.

To the extent that Sharia law (which is not even adhered to or advocated by most American Muslims) conflicts with applicable federal, state, or local laws of the United States, it is clearly and indisputably unenforceable.

Contrary to the suggestion in Patriot Journal’s bigot-baiting headline, Muslims residing in Minneapolis are also the city’s “own citizens,” and are equally entitled to the protection of their civil liberties.
